Product Description

One of the nicest and certainly one of the most valuable “mish mash” lots I’ve offered.  This one has a bit of everything, and quite a bit here is not only nice & choice, but could be individual lots in virtually any public auction.  This is a pretty compact lot (will fit in a small box,) loaded with $50-$100-$250-$500++ (net!) items/groups.  Perfect for the high-end dealer, established online seller, or bourse dealer.  Many of the items here are eclectic in nature (proofs, specimens, trial colors, forgeries, specialized studies, booklet position studies, etc.) which is why they’re in a mish-mash like this.  This is a real “philatelist” lot, as virtually everything here would be interesting to specialists (and many of these specialized items are very scarce – if cataloged at all, usually woefully undervalued vs. actual rarity.)

It’s difficult to adequately describe this lot due to the breadth and value, but let’s start with a choice sound Sperati Scott 2 reproduction with blue grid cancel (w/ Sperati handstamp, numbered “96”, Est retail $750+++), loads of 19th Century proofs starting with 9x1 and including a lot of the popular early numbers, some “SAMPLE” overprinted stamps, plus more regularly-issued 19th Century including mint & used (values to $100’s or even $1,000’s noted, and in much better condition than typically seen.  I spotted a Scott 26 MNH bottom margin strip of 3 – great plating piece, plus 3 more mint OG blocks of 4, Scott 36 used block of 4 CV $2,750, very scarce!), then even more eclectic material like a Scott 250 forgery (on original post office department circular – very scarce & great exhibition piece!  Est retail $500-$750++)

20th Century includes better singles/sets like mint 294-299 (x6 sets, but generally present as plate #/imprint strips of 3, pairs, etc.  Most 4 margins & sound w/ some NH!, etc.!), 323-327 (x9 sets plus extras, most sound & 4 margins, some NH), some scarce mint booklet panes  like 319g (complete group of all positions A-I, very difficult to duplicate!), 319Fq position G (mint VLH XF gem w/ inverted watermark, unlisted in Scott as such, normal catalogs $300++), 332a’s (specialized group of various plate numbers & positions), 375a, 424d, 425e, etc. (again, various positions & plate #’s for all those numbers), then blocks and plates including better like Scott 834 (XF gem NH plate block, plate block w/ arrow and centerline block, CV $1,100++).

Back-of-book is very strong and includes Special Delivery mint plate number singles (including some very attractive & NH E11’s), super selection of proofs including Dues, Officials (card proofs appear complete!), Newspapers, etc., great selection of 26 Official “SPECIMEN” stamps (w/ better like O5S, O9S, O33S, O39S, O62S, O65S-O66S!), a great selection of Officials cut squares (values to $350++ with many gem full corners like UO28 & UO43, gorgeous group with a SCV of many thousands,) nice revenue items including dozens of better stamps like Scott R102 (CV $1,000), better proofs, trial color proofs, Proprietary proofs (including multiples,) etc., mint VF LH Ducks starting with RW7, some very tough test stamps (noted a MNH pair and strip of 3 of TD13 – very rare, est $2,000-$3,000! – and many more better test/dummy items including EFO’s),

The catalog value adds up very quickly (no doubt to some enormous number,) and virtually everything here can be an individual item on eBay, BidStart, and many of the items could be individual lots in any major public auction.  Very nice overall quality with a wealth of $50-$500++ (net) items!  Please call me if you’d like more information, or would like to discuss payment terms (which I’d certainly make available on a lot like this.)

Extension/Expertization Policy

Expertization/Extension Policy

Any uncertified (single) stamp that I sell may be placed on "extension" while a certificate of expertization is obtained. In addition, stamps with existing certificates issued prior to January 1, 2015 may be placed on extension for a new certificate. Individual stamps from a larger lot may not be placed on extension, unless prior approval has been obtained. The following procedure must be followed for all extensions:

  • All lots must be paid for in advance and the lot will ship once payment clears. Upon receipt, please examine the item. If you agree with my description but want a certificate, then...
  • You must notify me (preferably at time of purchase) that you are requesting a certificate and we must agree on a 3rd party service (APEX, PF, PSAG and PSE are acceptable) to do the certification. This notification must occur within 7 days of receipt but in no event later than 30 days from the purchase date. The item must be submitted within 7 days of receipt, but in no event later than 30 days from the sale.
  • You submit the item as the rightful owner and pay any certification and postage costs required at that time.
  • If the item comes back with an opinion stating "not genuine", with a different identification (different Scott number), or with faults not originally described, you may return the lot and I will reimburse your purchase price plus the cost of the certificate (up to 20% of the purchase price or $100, whichever is lower). The stamp must not be marked in any way, and must be returned in the original condition (not encapsulated). Express service premiums are not reimbursable. Certificate costs are not refundable if the service cannot render an opinion, or if a graded certificate disagrees with any statement regarding grade or estimated grade.
  • Upon receipt of the returned stamp and certificate, I will credit your account (as defined in (4) above) within 24 hours. You can leave the money on account to apply toward future purchases, or request a refund, in which case funds will be sent within 2 business days.
