About Ken

My collecting roots go back to early childhood. I started my stamp collection in 1971 with the help of my dad (who also collected as a child and continued collecting into his 80's.)

Unlike many youth collectors who abandoned the hobby when high school, college, or "other interests" interfered, I continued collecting throughout my teenage and young adult years. After graduating from college in 1987 (cum laude, Chemical Engineering), I worked at a Fortune 500 company, initially as a polymer research scientist, then later in various management positions. It was during that time I developed my interest in computers and the Internet.

My other hobbies include playing piano/keyboards, where I've performing publicly since the late 1970's. Although I appreciate many musical genres, I especially enjoy playing and listening to jazz. I currently play in the jazz trio "Winelight," based in the Cleveland, Ohio area, and have performed at various venues including Cleveland Browns Stadium and Progressive Field.

I'm always happy to share my knowledge about philately and/or help someone understand a concept.  Maybe you've heard of the "Srail test", a graphical manipulation to check for reperforation, but aren't quite sure how to do it? Please ask, I'm happy to help!

History of SrailStamps.com

My online presence began when my hunt for stamps went "online" and I joined eBay in February 1996 (undoubtedly one of the earliest registered users still active in the stamp category). It wasn't long before my "hobby" blossomed into a full-time business. I left my research position in late 1996, and by the end of 1998, was well-established on eBay and a charter member of the "Powerseller Gold" club.

In the early 2000’s, I began moving my business from eBay to the srail.com website, which became my primary sales venue in 2005. In 2013, I introduced “SrailStamps.com” with the hopes of providing an even better environment for buying stamps.  It was the culmination of a year of work (I designed the website myself) and incorporated many customer suggestions made over the years.

Since 1996, I've sold over 50,000 items via the Internet, ranging in price from $1 to $10,000's and in size from single stamps to collections filling dozens of boxes. I look forward to helping you find what you're looking for!
